Hedge trimmer shaping a green shrub

Shrub and Hedge Trimming in the Lehigh Valley

Overgrown shrubs make a whole house look tired. We shape them properly, keep them healthy and haul away every clipping.

Shrubs and hedges frame your home. When they are tight and healthy the whole property looks sharp. When they are overgrown they block windows, crowd walkways and hide the house. ESG Landscaping trims shrubs, hedges and ornamental plants across the Lehigh Valley and leaves the beds clean when we are done.

Good trimming is not just shearing everything into a ball. Different plants need different cuts at different times of the year. We trim for shape and for the long term health of the plant.

What our trimming service covers

  • Hedge shapingStraight, even hedge lines that are slightly wider at the base so the whole plant gets light.

  • Clearance cutsOpening up windows, walkways, doors, siding and utility access.
  • Dead wood removalTaking out dead and damaged branches that drag the plant down.

  • Full cleanupEvery clipping raked out of the beds, blown off the hard surfaces and hauled away.

Timing matters in Pennsylvania

When you trim is as important as how. Spring bloomers like forsythia, lilac, azalea and rhododendron set next year's flowers soon after they bloom, so they should be trimmed right after flowering. Trim them in fall and you cut off next spring's show.

Evergreens like boxwood, yew and arborvitae are best shaped once new growth has come in, from late spring into summer. We avoid heavy cuts late in the season because new growth that has not hardened off can be damaged by an early Lehigh Valley frost.

We provide shrub and hedge trimming in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, East Stroudsburg and across the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos. See the full service area.

FAQ

Trimming questions

Do not see your question? Call or text us and you will get a straight answer.

How often should shrubs be trimmed?

Most shrubs look their best with one or two trims a year. Fast growing hedges like privet may need more. We will recommend a schedule based on what is planted at your property.

Can you fix shrubs that are badly overgrown?

Usually, yes. Many shrubs handle a hard cut back well. Others need to be brought down over a season or two. We will be straight with you about what will recover and what is better replaced.

Do you haul away the clippings?

Yes. Cleanup and haul away are part of the job. We leave the beds and hard surfaces clean.

Do you trim trees?

We handle shrubs, hedges and small ornamental trees that can be trimmed from the ground. Large tree work needs a tree service.
